Advancing Security Architecture and Engineering through Design and Build Principles

The Institute of Security Architecture United is initiating a specialized focus group dedicated to the advancement of security architecture and engineering, emphasizing foundational design and build principles over the industry’s growing dependence on vendor-centric solutions. This initiative aims to restore focus on structured methodologies, systems thinking, and engineering discipline as the core tenets of secure system development and infrastructure defense.
Despite an ever-expanding marketplace of security tools—resulting in what many now recognize as vendor sprawl—organizations continue to face critical security breaches and sensitive data leaks. This persistent disconnect highlights a need to re-evaluate how security is architected, engineered, and sustained at a systems level. Tooling alone cannot compensate for the absence of a defensible, well-integrated design.
This focus group will convene seasoned professionals, technical fellows, and systems-oriented thinkers to critically examine and reinforce the role of principled design, secure component integration, and architectural strategy. The objective is to contribute meaningful insights and guidance to the field, advancing the discipline beyond reactive tooling toward proactive, resilient security engineering.
All participating members will be formally credited and recognized as contributing authors in any published findings, recommendations, or position papers developed by the group.
